    The figures are a gift to Columbia from the Rouse Company and the Enterprize Development Company in honor of the late Mort Hoppenfeld. Hoppenfeld was Vice President of the Rouse Company and directed the planning and design of Columbia. A commemorative plaque, now missing, read: In memory of/MORT HOPPENFELD/WHOSE PLANS AND DESIGNS/FOR COLUMBIA EMBRACE ALL PEOPLE/THE HUG/COLUMBIA'S 20TH BIRTHDAY/JUNE 21, 1987.
