    Description: 
    The sculptured pylons are on either side of the Capitol main entrance, two on either side. Wisdom and Justice are to the left; Power and Mercy to the right. Wisdom (a female figure) stands clutching a book; Justice (a male figure) stands beside her with his arms crossed and a collapsed scale in his proper left hand. Power (a male figure) stands holding a sword in his proper right hand across his chest; Mercy (a female figure) has an opened proper right hand, in gesture of temperament.

    Remarks: 
    Work on the "new" capitol (Nebraska's third) began in 1922 and was completed in 1934 at a cost of nearly ten million dollars. Goodhue was the architect; Lawrie, the sculptor. IAS files contain related excerpt from "A Harmony of the Arts: the Nebraska State Capitol," edited by Frederick Luebke, 1990; and excerpts from American Architect, Oct. 1934; and Lincoln Sunday Star, April 22, 1923.
