Remarks:
The monument was erected in 1884 as a memorial to those individuals from Cerro Gordo County, who fought and died at the Battle of Pleasant Hill, Louisiana. The monument underwent repair in August of 1937, because of tipping. IAS files contain related newsclippings, including Mason City Globe, Aug. 11, 1937 and McExpress, April 4, 1984. IAS files also contain 1995 proposal for restoration.
