Inscription:  DETROIT BRONZE CO./DETROIT MICH. (On front of base, raised:) (List of names of soldiers)/PLEASANT HILL, LA. (On one side of base, raised:) (List of names of soldiers)/CORINTH, MISS. (On back of base, raised:) (List of names of soldiers)/BELMONT, MO. (On the other side of base, raised:) (List of names of soldiers)/SHILOH, TENN. unsigned Founder's mark appears. Description:  Civil War soldier in uniform stands at parade rest. He holds the barrel of his rifle with both hands, and its butt is on the ground by his proper right side. His uniform includes a cap, a cloak and a coat. He stands atop a tall multitiered base with reliefs and inscriptions. On the base are relief busts of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, and a Civil War soldier. Above them are reliefs of an equestrian, an eagle, a flag, a medal, and an anchor. The monument underwent repair in August of 1937, because of tipping. IAS files contain related newsclippings, including Mason City Globe, Aug. 11, 1937 and McExpress, April 4, 1984.
