Remarks:
Erected by the State of New York for $6,000, the monument is a gift of the New York Monuments Commission. General Curtis, a native of DePeyster, New York, served in the Civil War and also as a New York State Assemblyman and United States Congressman. The site on which the sculpture stands was originally part of federal post office grounds; but the post office building was sold in 1991. The monument was sandblasted in the 1960s.
