Remarks:
Gift of William Rand Kenan, Jr. in memory of his parents William Rand Kenan and Mary Hargrave Kenan. The fountain was altered in 1953 after the State Highway Department declared it a traffic hazard. The lower 6-8 foot pools were removed and concrete curbing was added, creating a traffic island. Lighting and shrubbery were also added to set the fountain off from the road. The commemorative plaque was added at that time. Repairs to the electric wiring and replacement of rusty pipes occurred about 1990.
