The sculpture previously stood at the original Woodward High School at the graves of William Woodward and his wife Abigail Cutter. In 1953, the sculpture was moved to its current location at a new trade school in Roselawn, named in honor of William Woodward. Woodward, 1768-1833, was a successful farmer who created a trust fund to begin a private boys school that eventually became Woodward High School, the first public high school west of the Alleghenies.
