Description:
Standing figure of Floyd B. Olson in a suit and tie. His proper left hand is in his jacket pocket. His proper right hand is raised and is pointing. A stack of books and an owl surrounded by oak leaves and acorns stand behind figure's proper right leg.

Remarks:
The sculpture was a relief project with funds from the City of Minneapolis, the State of Minnesota, the State Relief Agency and the Works Progress Administration. The site of the memorial, near Olson's birthplace, was originally to include a museum, amphitheater and park for which the state allocated $16,220, but ultimately, only the statue was erected. This is

's last major work. Floyd B. Olson (1891-1936) was a three-term governor of Minnesota who died in office. IAS files include an excerpt from "Monumental Minnesota," by Moira Harris ([St. Paul]: Pogo Press, 1992) and related articles from the Minneapolis Times-Tribune, Sept. 23, 1937 and Nov. 18, 1940.
