Administered by Atlanta Library Board, 141 Pryor Street, S.W., Atlanta, Georgia
Located Atlanta-Fulton Public Library, 1 Margaret Mitchell Square, Atlanta, Georgia 30303
Remarks:
The sculpture was commissioned in 1982 by the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library, originally slated to be sited over the plaza entryway to the library as a symbolic entry. It remained in the maquette stage for several years, because of unsuccessful fundraising efforts. The sculpture was eventually completed in conjunction with a project to redesign the library's entry plaza, funded through a 1985 bond referendum.
Marcel
Breuer
and Hamilton P. Smith were the architects for the redesign project, Stevens and Wilkinson of Atlanta were the associate architects for the project. IAS files contain April 1988 article from the Atlanta Constitution, pg. 1C, 4C; and a library brochure entitled "A Man and His Art: A look at Wisdom Bridge and the man who created it."
