A tall granite obelisk rests on a square granite base that is adorned around the sides with a

frieze depicting soldiers marching and officers on horseback.

Remarks:
The monument was erected by daughters of Union veterans in honor of Maryland soldiers who served during the Civil War. The

frieze around the base was cast from molds created by Buberl for the Pension Building in Washington, D.C. The

. The poem on the monument base is by English poet William Collins IAS files contain copies of articles from: Baltimore American, May 13, 1885; May 31, 1885; May 31, 1893; May 31, 1896; and Baltimore Sun, June 1, 1885. IAS files also include an excerpt from Susan Cooke Soderberg's "Lest We Forget" (White Mane Publishing Co.,1995), pg. 40.
