Remarks:
This sculpture of a rare Espanola tortoise from the Galapagos Islands was donated by Margaret Raphael, donor of the land for the Chautauqua Institution's sculpture park. Espanola #21 was a tortoise that lived at the San Diego Zoo until 1971 when it was shipped back to the Galapagos Islands in an effort to encourage breeding in the hope of increasing the tortoise population.
