Description:
Bronze plaque with bas-relief medallion portrait bust of Ernest Harold Baynes. He is shown in proper left profile. Interspersed among the text on the plaque are small bas-relief depictions of birds, a buffalo, a fox and a squirrel. The plaque is attached to a large rock.

Remarks:
Baynes was a writer and naturalist who established the Meriden Bird Club, the first such club in America. The commemorative sculpture was dedicated on the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Meriden Bird Club. IAS files contain copy of related article from Granite State Free Press (Plainfield, NH), Aug. 9, 1935; and copy of related excerpt from Philip Zea and Nancy Norwalk's "Choice White Pines and Good Land, a History of Plainfield and Meriden, New Hampshire", Portsmouth: Peter Randall, 1991, pg. 264, 334-336.
