    Owner:

    Remarks:
The sculptor had cast smaller versions of the sculpture entitled "Challenge." Nine models, twenty-two inches high, were presented as gifts to patrons donating $25,000 or more to cover the $250,000 cost of the sculpture. The sculptor began working on the sculpture in November, 1980. He used the small reproductions to create the sculpture, and was also able to use real elk, which roam the nearby mountains. IAS files contain a related article from The Tribune (Monument, CO), April. 15, 1982, pg. 1, which includes photos of the dedication. IAS files also contain another related article from The Tribune (Monument, CO), April 18, 1982, pg. 1 and back pg., which discusses funding information and details the helicopter transport of the sculpture from its founder in Loveland, Colorado, to its site at the museum.
