CRAVEN PEYTON/BORN AT SHELBYVILLE KY./NOV. 30, 1823:/WAS CALLED AWAY/NOV. 7, 1872./PEYTON/CARA CREASE/DEVOTED WIFE OF DR. CRAVEN PEYTON/DIED JULY 22, 1904/"BLESSED ARE THE PURE IN HEART,/FOR THEY SHALL SEE GOD." (One side of base:) A great and good man died this day,/And lo! angels came and bore him away./He is not here. His angel cried./The Lord had need of him/He could not here abide. (Other side of base has unreadable inscription) Founder's mark appears.
    Description: 
    The gravestone for Dr. Craven Peyton, 1823-1872, and his wife Cara Crease Peyton. An angel stands with a full-length, closed set of wings, proper right hand lifted above the head, and proper left hand holding an open book at chest level. The angel is mounted on top of a multitiered base with inscriptions. On the front of the base is a memorial portrait, a bust of a bearded man within an oval medallion, perhaps of Dr. Peyton.
