    Description: 
    An upright slab with bas-reliefs of Martin Luther on each side. On one side, Luther is depicted playing a lute while seated. He wears a robe. In the background are a man and woman who are jointly holding a book, and behind them is a church. At the top of the bas-relief is a banner with the legend "MARTIN LUTHER/THE MUSICIAN. On the other side, Martin Luther is depicted sitting. He wears a robe, and holds a book in his proper left hand. His proper right arm is around the shoulders of a boy standing beside him. Behind and to the proper right of that boy are three other boys or young men. A pulpit is behind Luther. At the top of the bas-relief is a banner bearing the legend "MARTIN LUTHER/THE EDUCATOR."

    Formerly a roof support and frieze at Chapel entrance, the bas-reliefs were moved in 1979-1981, when the building was enlarged. Wittenberg University is a Lutheran college.
