Remarks:
This sculpture was the first gift to the Fairmount Park Art Association. The donor wished to remain anonymous but records indicated that founding board member, Edwin N. Benson, gave funds to purchase a bronze allegorical statue. The amount given, which did not cover the cost of the base, was $1,000. The sculpture was accepted in June 1872 and was originally located at George's Hill on a 60 inch granite base. It was moved according to the Bach publication in ca. 1976 when the new Horticultural Center was built. The SOS! survey notes that the piece was moved ca. 1976-1980.
