    Description: 
    The sculpture consists of a large portal constructed with two rectangular vertical granite stones supporting a horizontal rectangular granite stone. The horizontal stone is flat on the bottom and roughly carved on the top. Flanking the portal are two large granite boulders. On the ground in front of the portal, twelve large rectangular granite stones have been arranged to form the outline of a rectangle. Inside the rectangle is a table approximately 5 ft. long, 8 ft. wide, and 1 ft. tall. Carved across the top of the table is a large "X" with a small recessed rectangle in the center. Between the table and the portal is a roughly carved granite bench. The sculpture is installed on a point facing a body of water.

    Remarks: 
    Funded with a National Endowment for the Arts, Art in Public Places grant of $20,000 given in 1985 to the Cambridge Arts Council. The sculpture was created as part of the Massachusetts Art in Public Places Program. IAS files contain a copy of the press release announcing the call for artists for several one percent for art projects including the Massachusetts Archives, a copy of the artist's proposal for the sculpture, timelines for the construction of the sculpture, and copies of memorandums outlining the selection process.
