Inscription:  (Relief, lower left edge:) Edmond Amateis signed Description:  One of four reliefs flanking the main entrance to the post office on 9th Street. The reliefs symbolize the tireless efforts of postal workers who deliver the mail in the various outer reaches of America. Representing the south (Panama Canal Zone) is an African-American male delivering the mail to a rural mailbox. The bare-chested male is dressed in only a pair of trousers. He bends over carrying a bag of mail over his proper right shoulder and lifting a bundle of mail with his proper left hand. At his feet is a large cluster of bananas. Two palm trees frame the relief and a pineapple rests in the foreground by the base of the mailbox.
