    Remarks: 
    Shortly after Logan's death the Illinois legislature appropriated 50,000 dollars for a memorial. The Chicago Park District contributed the installation site and $14,000 for the foundation. Saint-Gaudens was chosen by a committee formed in Chicago to memorialize Logan. He collaborated with architect Stanford White to create the environmental context for his sculpture. Daniel H. Burnham assisted Stanford White with the design of the base and setting. Saint-Gaudens created the figure and Alexander Phimister Proctor created the horse. Annette Johnson and Mary Lawrence Tonetti also worked on the commission. In November 1905 muriatic acid was applied to the statue to remove dirt. This process repeated several times. The Chicago Park District Monument and Sculpture Photographic Archives contain photos of the sculpture from the early 1900s to the 1970s. The Chicago Park District Monument and Sculpture Preservation Files contain miscellaneous correspondence, and conservation treatment reports with photographic documentation.
