    Description: 
    Five-legged metal base evolves upward to became a spiral form which narrows towards the top. Projecting from the spiraled area are approximately twenty-five elongated protrusions. These project in a parallel direction at the bottom and upward from the top.

    Remarks: 
    Funded with a National Endowment for the Arts, Art in Public Places grant given in 1987 to Diverseworks, Inc., as part of plaza renovation in 1991-1992. Installed as part of the Market Square Park Project, initiated by DiverseWorks in 1985, in collaboration with the Houston Parks and Recreation Department, Houston Downtown Association and five artists, for the redevelopment of Market Square Park. Each artist contributed to the celebration of Market Square as an integral urban space in the history of Houston. Funding for the project included a $25,000 grant from the Art in Public Places Program of the National Endowment for the Arts. Other contributors to the project included the Brown Foundation ($150,000), the Wortham Foundation ($75,000), and Nancy and Rudge Allen ($50,000). Project was the first time artists were invited by the city to participate in the design of a park. IAS files contain two related articles from The Houston Chronicle, March 17, 1989, pg. 4; and July 9, 1994, pg. 29.
