Remarks:
General Anthony Wayne was an officer during the American Revolution. The commission was originally given to Charles J. Mulligan, but he died before the work was begun. Money for the monument was raised through an annual tax levy.
Originally, this sculpture of Fort Wayne's founder was installed in Hayden Park, but in 1973 it was relocated to Freimann Square where it was installed on a new base. The original base, a large granite block with bronze relief plaques, was left in Hayden Park, which became part of the grounds at Harmer School. IAS files contain newspaper articles from the Ft.
