Remarks:
The doors were designed by Thomas Crawford in Rome, 1855-1857. After the death of Crawford, William H. Rinehart executed the models from the Crawford sketches, 1863-1867. The models were stored in the crypt of the Capitol before being cast in 1904. They were installed in 1905.
