Remarks:
The fountain's originally larger landscape setting was designed by Charles H. Platt and included a base (now lost), octagonal basin, shaft, and benches. Funding was provided by citizens of Michigan, who raised $25,000, and by an appropriation approved by Congress for $15,000.
