    Remarks: 
    This piece is one of nine busts placed along the front of the Library of Congress building. The busts were executed by three different artists. Herbert Adams did Demosthenes, Scott, and Dante; F. Wellington Ruckstull did Goethe, Franklin, and Macaulay; J. Scott Hartley did Emerson, Irving, and Hawthorne. The original architects were Smithmeyer & Pelz, followed by Casey.
