    Owner:
Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, 800 Vine Street, Plaza, Cincinnati, Ohio 45202
    Provenance:
Formerly in the collection of Federated Department Stores, 7 West Seventh Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 1980-Jan. 9, 1993.
    Remarks:
The sculpture was originally commissioned by Federated Department Stores, Inc. for their headquarters at 7 West Seventh Street in Cincinnati. Nevelson visited the site in June 1979 and constructed a wood maquette. The completed piece was dedicated on Jan. 22, 1980. In 1989, because it was agreed that the sculpture could not be seen to its advantage on the narrow street, the Cincinnati City Council and Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County collaborated in a plan to relocate the work to the library grounds. Library Trustees raised an estimated $40,000 for the work's relocation and it was relocated to the Library on January 9, 1993. IAS files contain copies of The Cincinnati Enquirer, Dec. 20, 1979 and Jan. 27, 1980; The Cincinnati Post, Jan. 1, 1993; Artscape (Nov. 1991), pg. 25-26; and a 1991 brochure, "Cincinnati Public Art Walk."
