    Description:
A tall granite obelisk fronted with a bronze figure of a Civil War soldier standing atop a five-foot pedestal. A bronze allegorical relief is instaled on the rear of the obelisk. The uniformed solider carries a rifle over his proper right shoulder; a bedroll is slung over his proper left shoulder and secured on his proper right side of his waist. Bas-reliefs of wreaths flank the soldier's pedestal. The relief on the rear of the obelisk shows a female figure representing "Mourning." She holds a shield in front of her with her proper left hand and extends her proper right arm out in front of her. In the background is an image of the U.S.S. Maine sinking in Havana Harbor. A palm frond frames the left side of the relief. The obelisk is set on a stepped base topped, lined with honor roll plaques. Steps lead up to the memorial.
