Description:
Full-length figure of a Civil War flagbearer stands atop a tall obelisk. He wears a uniform and coat; a scabbard hangs at his proper right side. The obelisk is punctuated by a series of horizontal lines and ends in a raised platform. Each side of the platform is accessed by a series of steps. At the four corners of the platform are raised pedestals. A full-length bronze figure of a Civil War soldier stands atop each pedestal. On the southeast corner is the figure of an artilleryman. He wears a uniform and holds a ramrod vertically with his proper right hand. On the southwest corner is the figure of a sailor. He holds a rope with both hands; the rope is coiled beside his feet. The figure on the northwest corner is of a cavalryman. He holds a riding crop in his hands at waist level. He wears a pistol in a holster on his proper left side and a canteen on the back proper right side of his belt. On the northeast corner is the figure of an infantryman. He is reaching for the hilt of a sword with his proper left hand; the tip of the sword touches the ground. A supply pouch is attached to the back of his belt.
