Description:
Full-length portraits of three of the pastors of St. Joseph's parish. Father Fidelis Maute wears a clerical robe and holds his proper left hand near his heart. In the center is a portrait of Father Basil Heusler. He wears a clerical robe and cloak; his hands are clasped in front of him. On the other side is a portrait of Father Joseph Kundek. He wears a priest's robe and holds his proper right hand across his waist. The limestone sculptures stand on individual limestone bases and are placed in a row along a walkway.

Remarks:
On nearby plaque: "Father Joseph Kundek. Pastor 1838-1857. Born Aug. 24, 1810, in Ivanvich, Yugoslavia, and ordained priest Aug. 18, 1833. He was appointed Pastor of St. Joseph Sept. 28, 1838. He founded parishes in Ferdinand (1840), Celestine (1843), Rockport (1845) and Fulda (1847). He brought monks from Einsedeln, Switzerland to found St. Meinrad Abbey in 1854. A great pioneer and missionary priest. He died Dec. 4, 1857 and is buried in St. Joseph Cemetery."
On nearby plaque: "Father Basil Heusler OSB. Pastor 1898-1942. Born Dec. 25, 1860 in Wahlen Switzerland, and ordained priest May 20, 1883, He was appointed pastor of St. Joseph, Sept. 12, 1898. He built the bell tower in 1904, the sisters convent in 1921 and St. Joseph's School in 1929. The soul and intrepid leader of his people, he died April 17, 1942 and is buried in St. Joseph Cemetery."
On nearby plaque: "Father Fidelis Maute, OSB. Pastor 1865-1897. Born March 18, 1837 in Hedingen, Germany, and ordained priest Jan. 2, 1864, he was appointed pastor of St. Joseph on July 25, 1865. He was the architect and builder of St. Joseph Church (1867-1880) and founder of Jasper College (1889). A pastor of great vision and tireless zeal, he died June 22, 1897 and is buried in St. Joseph Cemetery."
The sculptures were commissioned in 1943. IAS files contain related copy of parish newsletter, "The Tower".
