    Description: 
    Full-length figure of William H. English. He has a full beard and wears nineteenth century dress including a suit with vest and unbuttoned knee-length overcoat. His thumbs are tucked into the armholes of his vest. The bronze sculpture stands atop a limestone base consisting of a die ornamented with a bas-relief laurel wreath on the front and ending in two steps.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture is one of two original bronze casts. The sculpture was donated to the county by William E. English and Mrs. Willoughby English Walling, the son and daughter of English. English served as representative to the Indiana and United States legislatures. He ran as candidate for Vice President of the United States with Windfield Scott Hancock in 1880, losing to James Garfield. IAS files contain copies of related articles from Indianapolis News, June 21, 1898 and (Scottsburg newspaper), Oct. 3, 1907.
