Medium:  Sculpture: marble; Base: stone. Dimensions:  Mary: approx. 5 1/2 x 2 1/2 x 2 ft.; Bernadette: approx. 2 1/2 x 1 x 1 1/2 ft.; Grotto: approx. 25 x 75 x 8 ft. Inscription:  unsigned Description:  Full-length figure of Mary stands in a niche in a masonry grotto, designed to replicate the Grotto in Lourdes, France. There are two smaller recesses at ground level. One recess contains an alter and the other a candle stand. A cloaked, kneeling figure of St. Bernadette gazes up at Mary from the left. Stones from Lourdes are among those which comprise the masonry. The statue of Mary was a gift of the Class of 1920. It was shipped from Lourdes. The St. Bernadette statue was a gift of the Kerwin family and the candles and candlesticks were a gift of Monsignor Rawlinson.
