Description:
A bearded St. Joseph stands with head turned slightly to the proper right. He is robed and holds a cloak to his chest with his proper right hand. With his proper left hand he holds a lily stem at waist level.

Remarks:
The sculpture was of Reverend Dean L. A. Moench, pastor of St. Joseph's Catholic Church from 1903 to 1925. It was installed in 1918 over the "new" front entrance of the original St. Joseph Hospital, which Moench was instrumental in building. In 1947, the sculpture was moved onto a base in front of the hospital entrance on 4th Street. In 1970, the sculpture was moved into the lobby of the "new" St. Joseph Hospital; and in 1985, it was relocated outdoors in the courtyard of the hospital's new addition. IAS files contain related clippings from the South Bend Tribune, Oct. 16, 1970 and Dec. 5, 1985.
