    Description: 
    A portrait of a young Corliss Randle Ruckle holding an open book. He is shown seated on a spiral stone staircase, which symbolizes the twelve years of his life. In his proper left hand he holds a bouquet of flowers which speak of life's brevity. With his proper right hand he points to a page in his book to symbolize the point at which his life was cut short. He wears high button shoes, knee breeches, a shirt with a wide collar, and a bow tie. Ferns decorate the side of the spiral staircase.
