    Description:
A Civil War infantryman in a sentry stance holds a rifle around the barrel with proper left hand over proper right hand. The butt rests on the ground near his proper right foot. He is dressed in a greatcoat and wears a billed cap. A canteen hangs at his proper right rear and a cartridge pouch is attached to his belt at the proper right front. The sculpture is mounted upon a base with a cornice containing crossed sabers and cannonballs on the front and rear, and fouled anchors on the left and right sides. Upright cannon barrels accent each corner of the base. The base has a graduated bottom with rough-cut stone around the lowest tier.
