Remarks:
The sculpture was commissioned for the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition in 1909 by the Scandinavian Societies of the Northwest and Alaska, who donated it to the University in 1917. SOS! report and University of Washington inventory record list execution date as 1917; Rupp lists date as 1909. SOS! report lists media of base as concrete and marble; University of Washington inventory record list base media as marble. IAS files contain copy of related University of Washington inventory record and copy of University of Washington Visitor's Guide.
