    Remarks:
The sculpture was funded by the Wisconsin Arts Board, the Madison Committee for the Arts, Olbrich Botanical Society, and People for Parks. The People for Parks donations were matched dollar for dollar by the City of Madison. The sculpture was fabricated by Mittler Monuments of Madison. According to the artist, "the stems of the fiddleheads are placed in a design that creates a space where children can explore." IAS files contain an excerpt from Frances W. Hurst's "A Common Joy," 1991, pg. 70-71, and a copy of the artist's sculpture proposal presented to the Madison Committee for the Arts (now called Madison CitiArts), dated Jan. 14, 1985.
