Located Penn's Landing, International Sculpture Garden, Columbus Boulevard & Dock Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
    Provenance:
Formerly located Alert Bay, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, before 1905.
    Remarks:
Initiated by the Fairmount Park Art Association. The totem pole was acquired by the Fairmount Park Art Association with support from the Knollbrook Trust. The pole was collected by D. F. Tozier in 1905. It belonged to the Kwakiutl Indians of the coastal lands around Queen Charlotte Strait (Vancouver Island, British Columbia) and has been attributed to Charley James or to his stepson Mungo Martin. The copper coin carved on the totem is a symbol of wealth. Custom Art Metals provided the stainless steel jacket collarpiece for the pedestal.
