    Description: 
    A mustached and bearded Civil War cavalry officer, seated on a stack of logs. He is in uniform and wears a brimmed hat and a belted jacket. His clenched proper left fist is near his heart and once held the barrel of a rifle. He rests his proper right hand on his thigh. His proper right foot rests on what appears to be a shell casing. The sculpture is mounted on a circular pedestal of dressed stone that rests on a tiered, octagonal base.

    Remarks: 
    The Putnam County Soldiers Monument Association raised the funds for the sculpture through popular subscription. IAS files contain a photocopy of a historical picture which shows the figure with the rifle. IAS files contain an excerpt from Jesse W. Weik's "Weik's History of Putnam County Indiana," Indianapolis: B. F. Bowen & Company, 1910.
