    Remarks: 
    The memorial was funded through voluntary subscriptions of the people of Washington. The District of Columbia War Memorial Commission erected it at a cost of $169,022, under an act of Congress aproved June 7, 1924, without expense to the United States. The cornerstone contains the names of 26,000 who served in World War I. It was designed to be a bandstand. IAS files contain an excerpt from Jannelle Warren-Findley's Aug. 1, 1985 report for the National Park Service entitled, "A Guide to Selected Statues, Monuments and Memorials," National Capital Parks - Central, National Park Service, Washington, D.C. (RFQ 3-4-1919) which includes a maintenance history, a brief list of bibliographic sources, and notes to additional information found in National Park Service files.
