Two rectangular relief panels flank the main entrance to the building. The panel on the left depicts two standing male figures. The male in front representing the Progressive Spirit is a bare-chested young male draped in classical robes at the waist and over his arms. He holds out a bowl with his proper right hand. Behind him stands an older bearded male figure who symbolizes the Pioneer in medical research. He looks over the shoulder of the young male as if observing the advancements in scientific research. The inscription, PHARMAKEVTIKE (Pharmaceutical), appears below the relief. The panel on the right depicts a bare-chested female figure draped with classical robes at the waist and over her arms. Behind her stands a male figure with his head hung low and a crutch under his proper left arm. The female figure looks toward the staff of Aesculapius, the Roman God of Healing, which she holds up in her proper right hand. She symbolizes Hope and she is guiding the unwell male figure toward the Light of Curative Knowledge with the hope that science will restore his health. The inscription, PHOS . KAI. ELPIS (Light and Hope), appears below the relief.
