    Description: 
    Pagoda is made of nine graduated, square slabs of granite stacked one on top of another. At the top is a ribbed cylinder shape. At the bottom is a square each side of which is adorned with the image of a Buddha seated on a lotus flower. The sculpture rests on a low square base on a concrete slab.

    Remarks: 
    Sculpture was a gift to the city of Washington, D.C. by the mayor of Yokohama in 1957. It arrived without instructions for assembling it, but the Library of Congress staff and others helped to reconstruct it. Image in Goode publication is from the dedication ceremony. IAS files contain an excerpt from Jannelle Warren-Findley's Aug. 1, 1985 report for the National Park Service entitled, "A Guide to Selected Statues, Monuments and Memorials," National Capital Parks - Central, National Park Service, Washington, D.C. (RFQ 3-4-1919) which includes a brief list of bibliographic sources and a few notes to additional information found in National Park Service files.
