Description:
Three Civil War soldiers -- one mortally wounded, another standing, clutching the flag, and a third keeling at attention with a rifle. All three soldiers wear uniforms of the Union Arm, which include a kepi, jacket, pants, boots, belt and canteen.

Remarks:
Built pursuant to an Act of Congress at a cost of $10,000. Memorializes those who served in the Navy as well as the Army. The Marion Branch National Military Home was absorbed by the Veterans Administration. The sculpture is a copy of one installed at the Chicamauga Battlefield near Chattanooga, Tennessee. Approximately 6,000 veterans are buried at the Marion National Cemetery.
