Remarks:
Sponsored by the "Friends of Al Lopez" who raised $37,000 for the statue. The idea for the statue was conceived nearly two years prior to its installation when the "Al Lopez Field" was demolished, leaving the native Tampan baseball Hall of Famer without a tribute. The City of Tampa assisted in the selection of the artist. IAS files include related articles from the Tampa Tribune, a copy of the dedication program, a pamphlet from the "Friends of Al Lopez," press releases and additional information.
