The idea was conceived by Sam D. Leto, chair of the Round Table's Statue Committee. Anthony Cardoso created an original drawing on which the statue was based. The land was donated by the City of Tampa. Donors' names are inscribed in granite slabs and are part of a wall behind the statue. Statue was originally to be a relief in granite. IAS files include related articles from the Tampa Tribune and the St. Petersburg Times, a postcard and information card with the original drawing and conception of relief and Round Table documents and pledge form. IAS files also include the partial text of the inscription on the base.
