Remarks:
Since this cast was originally intended for a cemetery, the sculptor eliminated the traditional rats at the figure's feet. The statue was aquired in 1978, and is a later version of a smaller sculpture located in the McGlynn Sculpture Court on the campus. Thomas McGlynn was a faculty member in 1937-1938 and 1946. IAS files include references to the book "Thomas McGlynn Priest and Sculptor," (Providence, RI: Providence College Press, 1981) and the McGlynn Archives & Sculpture Collection at the College.
