    Description: 
    Standing figure of a barefoot boy walking by a tree stump with his trousers rolled up. His proper left hand is on the stump. He has a bag hung over his proper right shoulder; a sling shot and a fish are hung over his proper left shoulder. He wears a cap.

    Remarks: 
    IAS files contain a copy of the Plainfield Messenger (Plainfield, IN), May 23, 1929, pg. 1, C 2, 3, and The Indiana Boys' School Herald (Plainfield, IN), June 8, 1929. Artist Gabriel Baribay was a 15 year old Mexican-Indian youth at the school, whose talents were discovered. The statue was inspired by William Cullen Bryant's poem "The Barefoot Boy." The stone for the piece was donated by Mr. John McMillan at the Indiana Limestone Company at Bedford, IN. The piece was presented by Garibay with a speech.
