Description:
Two carved limestone relief sculptures flanking the main entrance to Mt. Vernon Mausoleum. The panel on the proper right of the entrance, titled "Spiritual Victory," depicts an angel with wings extended out to the proper right. She has a halo over her head and holds a palm branch in her proper right hand. The panel on the proper left side of the entrance, titled "Resurrection," depicts a draped female figure holding her hand out to the proper left. A bird with a twig in its beak sits on top of her head. She holds a branch in her proper right hand. Butterflies are just above her extended hand. In the center between them is a decorative panel titled "Hand of God."

IAS files contain a copy of the Indianapolis Star (Indianapolis, IN), Sept. 17, 1944 discussing how the piece was made, what is symbolized in each relief panel and quotations from the artist about the piece. The artist was commissioned by the Indiana Cemetery Corporation in March of 1943.
