Remarks:
IAS files contain a brochure "The University of Vermont Morgan Horse Farm" explaining the history of the Morgan horse and farm. IAS files also contain a copy of the dedication program for the statue. The statue's dedication was timed to coincide with the centennial anniversary of the death of Justin Morgan. The Morgan horse is Vermont's state animal and America's first breed, begun by Colonel Joseph Battell in the latter 1800s. The horse was named after the Massachusetts school teacher Justin Morgan, who brought the horse to Vermont in late 1789.
