Life-size sculpture of a standing man holding a book in his proper left hand. His proper right arm is extended and he holds a paper in his proper right hand.

Remarks:
See IAS files for excerpts of the National Register of Historic Places sheet, which is also available at the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office in Salem. Reverend Jason Lee was founder of the Methodist Mission in Oregon. Statue is a duplicate of bronze unveiled in the United States Capitol in 1952. The capitol sculpture was financed largely by legislative appropriation, and in small part by the contribution of Oregon school children. When Proctor died in 1950, only the model was finished. Sculpture completed by his son and associate, Gifford MacGregor Proctor.
