This work is one of four sculptures installed on the North Terrace that illustrates the "inner energies" which shaped this country. The Scientist, an symbol of the impulse that has spurred the country's intellectual and technological development, is a male figure walking with his proper left leg forward and his proper right arm across his chest. He holds a book in his proper right hand and looks off into the distance to his proper right. He is dressed in loose drapery and has a moustache.
