Description:
Standing portrait of Nicolson dressed in a shirt with a high collar, a bow tie, a buttoned vest, and a long double-breasted coat which hangs open. His proper left hand rests on a short pillar on his proper left side. His proper right hand is holding papers down at his side. The sculpture rests on a tiered base adorned on the front with an inscription plaque and a three-link chain, and on the back with an inscription plaque.

Remarks:
James Bartram Nicholson and his partner James Pawson formed a bookbindery which became one of the finest bookbinders in the country. In 1845 he joined the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and in 1862 was elected Grand Sire of the Sovereign Grand Lodge. In 1901, twelve years after his death, the Pennsylvania Grand Lodge of the Odd Fellows honored his with this sculpture.
