Description:
This pediment shows a large globe in the center with figures on each side. "To the left, Europe, a heroic figure, seated on an Ionic captial, extends his left hand holding a classic lamp, symbolic of Knowledge, toward Africa. Next to Europe, a genie or brooding spiritual presence, symbolizing the Wisdom of Europe, is prepresented by a youth who carries a book. In the far left corner, a reclining Grecian female holds in her hand a small sphere representing Power."

Remarks:
This piece was part of the New Deal Art program. Goode's book reports this work as being executed by Adolph Weinman and located at the Department of the Post Office Building. The General Service Administration reports the work as executed by George Snowden and located at the Interstate Commerce Commission. The work was designed by Weinman and executed by Waugh.
